SENSOGRIP PROSTHETIC ATTACHMENT

Veterans Affairs Challenge #1 | www.grabcad.com

I was inspired by hydraulic braking systems to imagine a prosthetic device that could re-transmit the sensation of pressure to the user. This could allow the user to not only gauge the pressure applied on the held object (especially useful for manipulating delicate items) but also to sense immediately any drop of pressure and thus prevent dropping objects.

Key design elements:
  • Slim hydraulic pistons (similar to the ones used in bicycle disk brakes) for a direct, "no lag", feedback from the clamping device to the wearer's forearm or bicep (through the provided arm band).
  • 3 pressure zones: 1 for small objects, 2 for large items.
  • Ergonomic tightening ring system, allowing for a quick, intuitive and precise control of the clamp.
  • Standard M12 thread for attachment on prosthetic arm.
  • Arm band featuring a ventilated mesh fabric and an easy adjustment system.
